His Lie, My Fall

Synopsis

My husband’s adopted sister killed someone—and he decided I should be the one to pay for it.

“I’m not really asking you to die,” he said softly, as if this were a simple favor. “I’ve arranged an air cushion below. You’ll be fine. I promise I’ll make it up to you.”

But when I looked over the railing, the concrete beneath was bare and unforgiving. There was no air cushion. Just empty ground waiting for me. Another cruel trick from his precious adopted sister, and he was willing to play along.

Five years of marriage had drained me of tears, of anger, of hope. I thought I had become numb to everything. But the child growing inside me gave me one last reason to believe I could escape.

“Pray for Mommy,” I whispered, pressing my hand over my belly. “If we survive this, we’ll leave your father forever.”

Then, before I could lose my courage, I climbed over the railing and let go.
