Synopsis
He once looked at me with cool detachment and said, “Chloe, I prefer them innocent.” I didn’t argue. I walked away and cut him out of my life completely.
Five years later, fate threw us back together—only this time, he was my new boss. Determined to avoid the past, I handed in my resignation on my first day. But Jasper had other plans. He cornered me in his office, his presence as overwhelming as ever.
“It’s been five years,” he murmured, his voice low and dangerous. “One more time?”
I dropped my gaze. “No. I have to pick up my daughter from school.”
The air shifted instantly. Jasper went still.
When I tried to rise from his lap, his arms tightened around me. The heat in his eyes dimmed, his perfect composure cracking for the first time. “How old is she?” he demanded through clenched teeth.
I hesitated before answering softly, “Three.”
Three—not four. And we had broken up five years ago. The math was clear. The child wasn’t his.
Jasper understood that too.
Slowly, his arm loosened from around my waist. I stepped toward the door, desperate to escape. But just as my fingers touched the handle, his voice cut through the silence again—this time edged with suspicion.
