Synopsis
I’m the middle child—the second daughter in the family. My older sister is the star student, and my little brother is the baby everyone dotes on. I’m the one people tend to overlook, yet somehow Mom and Dad praise me the most whenever we’re in front of others.
“Lily’s such an easy child,” they always say. “She never asks for new clothes. She’s perfectly happy wearing her sister’s hand-me-downs.”
When there were only two fried eggs left on the table, she didn’t even reach for one. She just lowered her head and ate her plain toast, as if she hadn’t noticed at all.
While her sister shuts herself in her room to study and her brother sprawls in front of the TV, there’s Lily—only ten years old—already washing dishes and sweeping the floor. Once she starts cleaning, you can’t stop her.
